Last week, I had earned the chance to attend the annual SBS Winners event following my win in June 2017. It was an exciting opportunity to network, share ideas and experiences and meet Mr Theo Paphitis himself.

The former Dragon started his SBS competition in 2010 and since, there have been over 330,000 entries and only just over 2,000 winners in . This places Bury St Edmunds Canine Creche in the 0.68% of the country having actually been selected as a winner. Which is quite exciting!

The day consisted of some open networking, meet the expert sessions and some inspirational speakers.

Highlights

Theo gave some brilliant words of wisdom and insight into the success of SBS, what makes small business great and took some open questions from the audience.

Next up was the first of the guest speakers. Stephen Cheliotis from TCBA London, and the author of Superbrands, an annual list of the most influential brands of the year. He gave us a wonderful insight in to what makes a brand a successful and well recognised brand.

In the afternoon we had the pleasure of being the audience to a “fireside chat” between Theo and John Roberts. The founder and CEO of AO.com. Starting from nothing and revolutionising the online white goods retail market. Wisdom and stories of the challenges he faced to build his hugely successful company left everyone feeling inspired and motivated.

We ended with another open Q&A session where we were able to delve deeper into the successful businessman’s mindset, get advice and find out more of what makes him tick.

At the end of the day we got the chance to receive our award certificate, a brief hello and handshake from the main man Theo Paphitis and a lovely photo (below).

Overall it was a wonderful day celebrating small business in the UK, I’m proud to be a winner and to be part of this community of supportive entrepreneurs. We are excited for what 2018 will bring following our whirlwind success in 2017.
